Lesson for the Week

Content in His Will

(01/12/09)

I love Philippians 4:13: “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” (NIV). It is a wonderful passage that gives hope and faith to many of us as we are going through trials in our lives. When Paul wrote this passage to the church in Philippi, though, he was speaking of learning to be content whatever his circumstances. Microsoft Works’ dictionary defines the word content as being “willing to accept a situation or comply with a proposed course of action.” Paul knew that God had his best interests at heart, so he was willing to accept God‘s will for his life daily. Remaining content in today’s society, however, seems to be getting harder every day. This is why our relationship with God is so important. God wants us to look to Him and trust Him in every part of our lives so we can have His perfect peace regardless of what may be happening around us. “Do not be anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV).
